From Bali to #1 in Australia & New Zealand
Dear Smartmates family,
What a journey it has been, and what a milestone we now celebrate together.
Recently in Sydney, at Zoho Inspire, Zoho’s annual partner conference recognising top-performing partners, Smartmates was honoured again with two awards: #1 Zoho Partner of the Year 2024 and #1 Zoho Premium Partner of the Year 2024 across both Australia and New Zealand.
That makes it three years in a row that Smartmates has ranked #1 across two countries, a milestone achieved in just four years of our journey.
My story with Zoho began over a decade ago, when at a startup I built from my couch in Melbourne’s leafy Elwood, Zoho’s apps helped me singlehandedly win one of the largest Australian government tenders of its kind. That was when I first discovered the magic Zoho could bring to change the game, the kind of magic that turns dreams into destiny. That company went on to become one of the most awarded in the world in its field.
Fast forward to 2020. During COVID, while the world was in lockdown, I made an unusual choice: to extend my vacation in Bali indefinitely, even as I feared this might be the end of the world as we knew it.
While Melbourne endured the world’s longest lockdown, I was sending hope to my family and friends in the form of sunset selfies from the W Hotel’s WooBar. In mid 2021, from a small villa in Umalas, surrounded by palm trees, a swimming pool, and a few brilliant minds, Smartmates was born.
Today, our team spans Australia and Bali, proving that excellence knows no borders. Clients don’t just get consultants; they get a family committed to delivering world-class results.
We have never claimed perfection, but we have always promised this: every minute we bill is valuable, ethical, honest, and transparent. That is why we created Smartmates Statements, not just reports, but a foundation of trust. We believe this openness is why our clients not only choose us but stay with us.
While Zoho recognition is a proud achievement, our work as a HubSpot Solutions Partner is just as important. Whether it is a full rollout, a tricky integration, or automation, the same principles of care, innovation, and integrity guide everything we do.
Now, as my time as CEO of Smartmates comes to an end, I remain on the board of directors while entrusting the reins to people more talented than me. My deepest wish is simple: for the continued health, growth, and happiness of my team. From day one, they have been my family.
And what I learned here in Bali is that when you treat your team like you would a member of your family, and add in some brilliant apps, magic happens.
