Zoho Books or MYOB: Which Accounting Setup Fits an Australian Business Already Using Zoho?

Smartmates helps Australian businesses compare Zoho Books and MYOB based on the finance process around the accounting system, not simply the feature list. Both can support core accounting requirements, but the stronger fit depends on payroll, inventory, GST and BAS processes, existing integrations and whether finance needs to sit closely inside a wider Zoho environment.
Changing Accounting Systems Needs a Strong Reason
Accounting software is rarely an isolated application. Invoices may originate from sales processes, payments need reconciliation, inventory can affect purchasing, payroll may sit alongside finance and management relies on accurate reporting. An established MYOB environment should not be replaced simply because the business uses Zoho elsewhere. Equally, keeping accounting disconnected from the customer and operational systems can create repetitive data entry and reconciliation work. The decision should start with the wider finance workflow.

What Australian Businesses Should Compare
- GST and BAS requirements
- Sales invoices and credit notes
- Supplier bills and purchases
- Bank reconciliation
- Payroll requirements
- Inventory requirements
- Online payment handling
- Recurring transactions
- Multi-currency requirements
- Financial reporting
- Approval processes
- Accountant access
- Existing MYOB history
- CRM-to-finance handovers
- Ecommerce connections
- Data migration requirements
- Staff familiarity with the current system
- Integrations that would need rebuilding
MYOB currently supports features including invoicing, GST and BAS reporting, payroll, inventory, banking and financial reporting. Businesses comparing platforms should therefore assess the actual modules they rely on rather than assuming the decision is simply between two invoicing products. See MYOB Business features.

Do Not Migrate Finance Just to Consolidate Software
Zoho Books supports Australian GST configuration, BAS reporting, invoices, sales orders, recurring invoices, credit notes, bills, purchase orders and core accounting functions.
MYOB also provides a broad Australian accounting environment, including GST, BAS, payroll, inventory and other finance capabilities.
That means there is no automatic reason to move.
During a Planning Session, Smartmates can review where invoices originate, which teams need finance information, what MYOB currently handles and where manual handovers exist between finance and the rest of the business.
If MYOB is working well and the required Zoho integration is straightforward, retaining it may be the better option. If finance data is repeatedly re-entered across several Zoho applications, Zoho Books may create a simpler operating model.
The Project Plan Estimate can then define migration, integrations, transaction handling, testing and training where a change is justified.
Financial migration also requires careful reconciliation. Opening balances, contacts, outstanding invoices, bills and historical reporting requirements should be agreed before cutover.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Zoho Books suitable for Australian GST and BAS?
Yes. Zoho Books includes Australian GST settings and BAS reporting functionality.
Does MYOB offer capabilities that Zoho Books may not directly replace?
Yes. Payroll and some inventory requirements can affect the overall architecture, so businesses should compare the complete process rather than accounting alone.
Should a business migrate from MYOB because it already uses Zoho?
Not automatically. Migration should solve an operational, integration or commercial problem.
Choose the Finance Architecture, Not Just the Accounting Brand
If your Australian business already uses Zoho but finance remains in MYOB, Smartmates can help determine whether integration or migration makes more sense.
